Spring into Student Art

After learning about the neurographic art technique pioneered by Russian psychologist, creative and architect Pavel Pskarev, and reviewing the neurographic works of artist Jade Fadojutimi, Upper School students in the Drawing, Printmaking and Painting class attempted to make some of their own. The process asks artists to draw freeform lines as an outlet for venting their stress and fear and then revisit the piece with a specific algorithm to transform the stress into beautiful art.

Other students in Drawing, Printmaking and Painting have been working on Isometric Drawings, 2D representations of 3D objects depicting all three dimensions at full scale using a specific angle that places all axes 120 degrees apart. This creates an illusion of depth and allows viewers to see multiple sides of an object simultaneously.

Students in Art Studio conducted a 2D media exploration working with a variety of materials, techniques and design choices. Their works demonstrate that a mixed media series can evoke a range of visual responses.
Art Studio and Ceramics & Sculpture students also have 3D artwork on display in the glass cases across from the cafeteria.

Students in photography classes have created a collage of self-portraits, edited work in Adobe Lightroom and independently explored the potential of self-portraits. Senior photographer JP Lazar’s explorations in self-portraiture are also on display.

Fourth grade artists have produced creative works reflecting their personal interests, choices of subject matter and styles.

Upper School painting students have been mastering the challenging process of blending acrylic paints to ensure their success when they move on to more complex works.

Student creations from the Upper School Fashion Lab are also available for viewing. This class exposes students to the fundamentals of fashion and costume design, illustration, construction and alteration. Students learn hand and machine sewing as part of the process.
