Members of the Middle School Social Justice Club met before classes to make care kits for those served by the Maria Shelter.
Aiming to create 25 care kits for women who are survivors of domestic violence at the shelter, a handful of 7th and 8th grade students met with their advisors before classes to make something happen.
To create their care kits, students pushed desks into rows and set out the various components to add, one at a time, to a reusable bag. Soaps, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand warmers, gloves, Chapstick, brushes, combs and sanitary products were among the items available, as students took turns walking among the desks, picking items and placing them into the bags.
They stored the completed bags at one end of the classroom, and the Social Justice Club handed them over to the shelter directors the following week.
Great work to all involved and photos from the experience are available here.
