Historical Documentaries Showcased

Upper School filmmakers premiered their final projects in a recent showcase of historical documentaries.

Upper School students have been hard at work in their Creating Historical Documentaries course, co-taught by Visual Arts and Graphic Design teacher Travis Chandler and Upper School History teacher Dan Greenstone.

Each semester, the course challenges students to research, write, film, edit and produce a documentary about an important historical event, moment, crisis or social justice cause. Students analyze a variety of important historical documentaries to help identify the qualities of exceptional films. Next, they combine this new visual knowledge with writing, research and storytelling techniques and have direct involvement with all aspects of pre-production, shooting, lighting, interviewing, editing and more to create professional-quality videos.

Shortly after December Recess, teachers and students welcomed their parents/guardians and peers to an in-class showcase. Chandler and Greenstone spoke about the unique efforts and talents that each student group contributed to the piece they created.

Parker is very proud of the students’ hard work and welcomes all to view these documentaries below.
