US Students Use Connection, Creation and Artificial Intelligence

By the Integrated Learning and Information Sciences Department
ILIS faculty members Annette Lesak and Seth Bacon collaborated with US English teacher Mike Mahany's Writers Studio class on AI-illustrated picture books.

Faculty challenged students to write a picture book. First, they read picture books they loved when they were younger along with some new ones. Then they worked in pairs to brainstorm, outline, write and edit a picture book.

Next, Ms. Lesak and Mr. Bacon shared some AI illustration tools, including Canva AI and Focus AI. Students learned how to use the tools to create the illustrations and work with AI to generate different scenes with the same character to produce a complete book. The final step was to share their work with Greenie's 1st grade class.

This was a wonderful ILIS and English Department collaboration and great cross-divisional sharing!
