Record Number of Students Report to Polls

More than 50 Upper School students were part of democracy in action when they reported to the polls throughout the city this past Election Day to serve as student judges through the Mikva Challenge.

Upper School History teacher Andy Bigelow encourages students to take advantage of this opportunity during every election cycle, and he was excited to have a record number of students volunteer to play their part in the democratic process. Participating students were required to participate in four hours of training to prepare for their varied roles on Election Day.

The Chicago Board of Elections and Mikva Challenge provide one of the most robust student judge programs in the country. Through this program, 2,000 high school juniors and seniors from more than 50 schools learn about the voting process and serve as election judges at polling places across the city on Election Day.
