Upper School members of the Asian Alliance affinity group came together during a recent weekend for a text-banking event to encourage voter participation in Chicago.
Members of Asian Alliance encourage each other to improve the community within Parker and in the greater Asian-American community outside the school. With the general election approaching, students partnered with Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIA Vote), a national nonpartisan organization aimed at promoting voting engagement within the Asian-American community, to make an impact.
In conjunction with APIA Vote, students hosted a text-banking event to target Asian-American youth (ages 18 through 26) in the Chicago area to encourage voter participation. By the end of the event, student volunteers messaged more than 1,000 voters, encouraging them to participate in the upcoming election and be a part of the functioning democracy.
Francis W. Parker School educates students to think and act with empathy, courage and clarity as responsible citizens and leaders in a diverse democratic society and global community.
