Culture Takes Center Stage in Spanish Field Trip

As part of our geographic focus on the Caribbean in Spanish III, 10th graders took a field trip to the “Paseo Boricua” in Humboldt Park. 

We had a delicious lunch at Nellie’s on Division Street, where students tried specialties such as the jibarito, mofongo, el sándwich boricua and their famous avena de coco. We then visited the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, where students explored exhibits about Taíno indigenous culture and resistance, the Puerto Rican comic book hero La Borinqueña, the tradition of Bomba music and attire and the work of the artist Rafael Tufiño. 

All the students left the field trip replete with new tastes and new knowledge!
