Teachers Share Periodic Table of Black History

A pair of teachers recently combined forces in sharing a periodic table of Black History in the Suzanne Crown Goodman Science Wing.

During the summer, Upper School Science teachers Gigi Mathews and Leslie Webster were working on plans for their bulletin boards for the coming year. After mapping out general ideas that worked well for each month, they looked for outside resources to help make things that much better.

Inspired by a 2019 initiative from the Lakeland Public Library, Mathews and Webster did their own research and identified four key facts for each notable Black history-maker featured. Next, they printed, cut and installed an interactive bulletin board where all could learn more about the wide-reaching and important contributions of those listed.

Webster has enjoyed watching students interact with the piece and shared that she and Matthews are happy to do their part to raise awareness about Black history while continuing with some lifelong learning of their own!
