Voice of Minnesota Twins Meets with Secrets of Success Club

Our guest was Cory Provus, the voice of the MLB's Minnesota Twins. Provus is originally from Highland Park, Illinois and worked his way through the broadcasting network. Provus started his career as a pregame and postgame radio host for the Chicago Cubs after graduating from Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University. He also worked with the Milwaukee Brewers and currently announces college basketball on FOX, the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament and a small number of Big Ten Network games.

Provus discussed his path to success with stops at small college towns, announcing virtual basketball games and taking any job he could secure after college before he arrived with the Minnesota Twins. After graduating from Syracuse, he was unsure if he would be able to go into the sports media industry and thought about returning to school and pursuing another degree. Provus talked about some of his favorite stories from riding team buses and some mistakes he made, as well as how he dealt with and learned from those mistakes. He told us that taking a job in a rural town is the first step towards working in a big city for a big-name team in sports media. One can’t expect to work for a big-name sports club immediately after graduating from college. He climbed his way up to his current position and now announces college football and basketball games in the Twins’ offseason.
